A power outage that occurred on the night of February 25, 2026, at the Pediatric Hospital in the municipality of Florida, in the province of Camagüey, has sparked outrage on social media following the public denunciation by activist Guelmi Abdul, who reported the incident in a post on his Facebook profile.

"Report (night of February 25, 2026, which I present today, February 26, 2026). The images that accompany this account need no filters; they speak for themselves. They belong to the Pediatric Hospital of the municipality of Florida, in the province of Camagüey," wrote the activist.

According to their testimony, the medical center was left without electricity. "As you can see, the medical center is plunged into complete darkness. It is outrageous and difficult to process the contradiction that the province is experiencing: While the distribution and installation of solar panels are being reported in the homes of officials throughout Camagüey..."

In her post, she added: "A hospital dedicated to pediatric care lacks the minimal lighting to provide proper attention. Who is really hurting?"

The activist further questioned the lack of response from the authorities: “This situation does not seem to trouble those who make decisions from the comfort of their well-lit homes. The pain and sacrifice are concentrated among the most vulnerable.”

He also described the direct impact on patients and families: “Children who, in addition to their illness, must confront the fear and discomfort of the darkness. Parents who watch over their children's sleep in inhumane conditions, filled with anguish. Doctors and nurses who, with the light of a phone or a rechargeable lamp, work magic to find a vein or administer an IM or IV treatment.”

In one of the text's most critical sections, he stated: "This is not social justice. This is not the system they promised. This is the shamelessness of socialism."

The post generated multiple reactions. Among the comments, several users expressed frustration and pain over the state of the healthcare system and the overall crisis facing the country. “People are dying daily from hunger, misery, and the lack of the most essential things to live, like water and medicine—everything is missing... Five months without water in Bolondrón, Matanzas province; we have to buy water trucks, and now without fuel, there’s simply none, there’s nothing,” wrote one person.

Another comment noted: "It’s hard to see this reality; it's deeply upsetting for any Cuban," while another user expressed: "My God, have mercy on my Cuba, how much longer will this mistreatment continue?"

The blackout at the pediatric hospital in Florida occurs amid repeated power outages affecting health centers across the country. In Sagua de Tánamo, Guantánamo, residents reported that the hospital remained in darkness "day and night" and that medical tests were even suspended due to lack of power. In the same municipality, it was necessary to restore electrical service at night to perform an urgent surgical intervention on a patient with a ruptured ectopic pregnancy, according to reports about the Juan Paz Camejo hospital.

In Havana, images were also released showing people sleeping on the floor in front of a hospital, due to the lack of resources and accommodation alternatives for patients and families arriving from other provinces, as seen in the scenes captured in front of the Comandante Manuel Fajardo Clinical Surgical Hospital.

So far, there has been no official response from provincial health authorities regarding the blackout reported at the pediatric hospital in Florida.
