A signature collection campaign has been launched to demand the release of Kamil Zayas Pérez and Ernesto Ricardo Medina, members of the independent audiovisual project El4tico, who were detained on February 6 and are currently under provisional detention.

The initiative was shared on Facebook by Paula Amador Lobón, who stated that since the arrest of the young people, a broad wave of support has emerged, showing that "they are not alone."

According to the explanation provided, the goal is to solidify that support both inside and outside of Cuba through a formal request directed to the Attorney General of the Republic and the Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Holguín.

In the text of the petition, the signatories express their "deep concern" regarding the detention and legal proceedings initiated against both audiovisual creators, whom they describe as authors of philosophical, humorous, and reflective content.

The petition argues that their work has remained within the peaceful exercise of freedom of thought and expression.

The document argues that freedom of expression is recognized in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and in Article 54 of the Constitution of the Republic of Cuba.

It also emphasizes that this right protects critical or uncomfortable opinions for the Government and cannot be restricted based on their alignment with official positions.

The campaign promoters believe that the charges brought against Ernesto Ricardo Medina and Kamil Zayas Pérez are unfounded and incompatible with constitutional and international guarantees, thus labeling their detention as arbitrary.

The petition expressly demands the immediate dismissal of all charges, the release of both young individuals, respect for due process, and the cessation of any criminal or punitive measures against them for the peaceful exercise of their fundamental rights.

According to the publication, accessing the petition link from Cuba requires the use of a virtual private network due to access restrictions.

The campaign concludes with a call for solidarity and the message "Freedom for Kamil and Ernesto."

"Freedom for Cuba," in a context of increasing international scrutiny regarding the state of free speech on the island.
