The confirmation of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's death following the joint military operation by the United States and Israel in Iran triggered a wave of reactions among Cubans both inside and outside the Island on social media.
In the posts from CiberCuba Noticias on Facebook, many Cuban internet users linked the events in Iran with the political situation in Cuba and directed comments with warnings to Miguel Díaz-Canel, Raúl Castro, and the power elite in Cuba.
"Get ready, Díaz-Canel," wrote a user in one of the most shared comments.
Others were more explicit: "Díaz-Canel NEXT" and "Canel and the Castros... will be next," reflecting a sentiment that associates the fall of Iranian leadership with the possibility of changes in Tehran's allied regimes.
President Donald Trump described Jamenei's death as "justice" and warned that he would respond with "an unparalleled force" if Iran attacks American or Israeli interests.
Meanwhile, Cuban-American Congressman Carlos A. Giménez issued a warning to Havana: “What happened today in Iran should serve as an example to the dictatorship in Cuba. They will be next if they don't change their modus operandi.”
While some users celebrated the news with phrases like “One less dictator” or “Glory to God,” others urged caution due to the implications it may have for global stability and the potential use of nuclear weapons.
Amid international tension, the digital debate made it clear that, for a segment of the exile and diaspora, what has happened in Iran and Venezuela reignites hopes for a potential political change in Cuba or even the possibility of a U.S. military intervention on the island, should ongoing negotiations not succeed through diplomatic means.
