Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar stated that the international political landscape has changed decisively and that, following the fall of Nicolás Maduro and actions against the Iranian regime, Cuba will be the next chapter in the end of the impunity of authoritarian governments.
In a message posted this Monday on her official account on X, Salazar stated that President Donald Trump has restored the strength of the United States on the global stage and that dictators "are no longer untouchable."
The lawmaker celebrated that Maduro has been brought to justice and that the regime of the ayatollahs in Iran has been humiliated, asserting that "the days of impunity have ended and the era of accountability has begun."
Salazar recalled that the Cuban people have endured decades of repression, imprisonment, and exile, and stated that this phase is about to close. “Cuba is next,” he wrote, referring to a possible political change on the island.
His statements come amid strong diplomatic and economic pressure from Washington on governments deemed authoritarian in the region, while Secretary of State Marco Rubio maintains a firm stance against the Cuban regime.
Recently, Republican lawmakers from Florida , following the armed confrontation that occurred earlier off the coast of the island, which resulted in the deaths of four men from Florida due to gunfire from Cuban troops.
The incident, which strains the relationship between Washington and Havana once again, triggered a wave of reactions among politicians in the state with the highest concentration of Cuban Americans in the United States.
