The Director of Hispanic Communications for the Republican National Committee, Jaime Florez, stated that the United States is closer than ever to facilitating a significant change in Cuba amidst the deep economic and political crisis the island is experiencing.
According to Florida’s Voice, Cuba is described as being in the worst crisis in decades, facing a sustained shortage of food, energy issues, and a decline in tourism revenue.
"They have no energy, no food, they have nothing. The crisis is worse than ever in 67 years," he stated.
In his opinion, this internal scenario, combined with the leadership of President Donald Trump and the role of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the son of Cuban exiles, creates unprecedented conditions for a shift in policy towards the island.
"We have never been this close as we are now," he assured.
Florez expressed hope that the current dynamics will lead to a "very prosperous solution for the Cuban people."
During the interview, he also addressed a recent deadly shooting related to a boat registered in Florida off the coast of Cuba, as well as the overall state of relations between Washington and Havana.
The Republican leader expressed that he does not trust the version provided by the Ministry of the Interior of Cuba regarding that incident.
"Not even with the benefit of the doubt. I don't believe them," he stated, suggesting that the regime might be trying to gain an advantage ahead of possible negotiations with the United States.
It was recently reported that the President of the United States, Donald Trump, may be considering Cuba as his next target as part of a broader strategy for regime change, according to sources from the administration cited by the news outlet The Atlantic.
According to the report, there is talk in the White House of a plan that not only includes Iran and Venezuela, but would also focus on Havana as part of a geopolitical offensive to reconfigure the balance of power in the Western Hemisphere.
