More than a thousand people participated in a caravan in Miami this Saturday to demand an end to the Cuban regime, which has been in power for 67 years.

The mobilization started at Tropical Park and concluded at the National Sanctuary of Our Lady of Charity of El Cobre, at the Hermitage of Charity, in an event organized by the Cuban American Anti-Communist Foundation.

With flags of the United States and Cuba waving together, the attendees sent a direct message to the administration of President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio: maximum pressure against the regime and concrete actions, no more failed dialogues or broken promises.

“I am here supporting the freedom of the Cuban people, which is already long overdue,” expressed a CBS News  participant during the rally.

The event also included the presentation of the "Oswaldo Payá Bank," in honor of the Cuban opposition figure who passed away on the island under circumstances that his family and activists attribute to the regime.

The caravan took place a few days after a deadly confrontation in Cuban waters. According to reports, a 24-foot vessel registered in Florida, with 10 men on board, was shot at by regime forces off the coast of Cuba.

Initially, four fatalities were reported, but later it was confirmed that three people had died. Cuban state television displayed ammunition that it claimed was found on the boat.

Rosa María Payá, Cuban activist, stated that the mobilization shows that “we are on the brink of change and we are ready for that change.”

In the same vein, the Miami-Dade County tax collector, Dariel Fernández, stated that the community will not remain silent in the face of "tyranny" and expressed gratitude for the Trump administration's commitment to the cause of a free Cuba.

For many exiles, the caravan symbolizes that unity both inside and outside the island is key to hastening the end of the socialist system that keeps Cuba engulfed in a deep political and economic crisis.
