A malfunction in ETECSA's power plant caused a disruption in the mobile signal and landline services in the municipality of Cárdenas since the afternoon hours of Sunday, the first, according to official reports.

According to information released by Telebandera, the generator that supports digital connections was damaged, leaving users in the area without service.

The power plant ensures digital connections from Cárdenas to the municipality of Martí, so the disruption affected communications in that corridor.

Since the moment of the breakage, specialists from the electric company and managers of the Cárdenas Multiservice Center have been working on finding a solution that will allow for the lasting restoration of the service.

Local authorities have been informed about the ongoing actions.

So far, it has not been specified when communications in the area will be fully restored.

On social media, several users have reported the widespread outage, especially since the disruption has hindered communications with family members living abroad.

The current energy crisis affecting Cuba has led to ETECSA reducing services and modifying its attention to the population nationwide, as part of the measures taken in response to the complex energy situation.

According to the state-run newspaper Sierra Maestra, from Santiago de Cuba, ETECSA explained via Facebook that the adjustments aim to maintain communication under exceptional conditions and prioritize basic support for users.

The company indicated that, although the commercial offices will remain open during their usual hours, during power outages only reception services and management of incidents, complaints, and claims will be guaranteed, while processes requiring computer systems or connectivity will be suspended.
