The Government of Panama confirmed the detention in Havana of ten Panamanian citizens and demanded that the Cuban authorities ensure procedural guarantees, continuous consular access, and respect for due process.
In an official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it received confirmation from its embassy in Cuba regarding the arrest of the group and that, from the very beginning, it has been making formal inquiries with the Cuban Foreign Ministry to understand the legal status of its citizens.
According to the note, the case is in the initial stage of investigation and will be referred to the relevant prosecutorial authorities.
Panama requested procedural guarantees and full respect for the rights of its citizens in accordance with international law and current legislation.
The Panamanian government indicated that it will act with responsibility, prudence, and firmness in defending its nationals, while reiterating its commitment to keep families informed and provide the necessary consular assistance.
Panama's reaction comes after Cuban authorities reported the detention of ten Panamanian citizens accused of alleged propaganda against the constitutional order.
According to the official version released in Havana, those involved allegedly entered the country to put up posters with messages deemed subversive.
Investigations, according to the Cuban Ministry of the Interior, are still ongoing.
