The U.S. Department of Justice described a report attributed to the Reuters agency about the preparation of a secret criminal indictment against Delcy Rodríguez, the interim president of Venezuela, as "completely false."

This was affirmed on Tuesday by Todd Blanche, Deputy Attorney General of the Department of Justice, in a message posted on the social network X, in which he rejected the information and questioned its veracity.

"Completely FALSE on the part of @reuters. I am not sure how this kind of fake news gets published," he noted.

The controversy arose from a report circulated on social media and some alternative media that claimed the U.S. Department of Justice was secretly preparing a criminal charge against Delcy Rodríguez for alleged corruption and money laundering offenses.

This alleged file, according to the narrative circulating on social media, would have the support of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, and it is said to have been prepared secretly without being formally presented in court.

Previous versions of those publications also mentioned that agencies such as the DEA had classified Rodríguez as a priority target due to investigations related to drug trafficking, which does not imply any formal charges before a federal court in Miami or any publicly announced accusations.

With the public clarification from the Department of Justice dismissing the report attributed to Reuters, the veracity of the original information that was circulating and reproduced by various websites and social media accounts is called into question.

U.S. agencies generally keep investigations open without making accusations public until there is sufficient evidence for a formal charge, but they clarify that this should not be confused with a secret indictment that has already been issued.

This episode adds to a series of reports, rumors, and denials concerning Delcy Rodríguez since she assumed the interim presidency of Venezuela following the capture of former president Nicolás Maduro on January 3, 2026.
