"What's happening in Cuba is incredible... we're going to fix it," said the President of the United States, Donald Trump, during an event held at the White House with the Inter Miami soccer team, where the Argentine star Lionel Messi was also present.
The president's comment came during a reception for the MLS club at the presidential residence, where Trump discussed various international topics in front of players, guests, and team officials.
During his speech, the president also referred to Secretary of State Marco Rubio and suggested that Cuba could become one of the next items on the agenda of his administration.
"Your next project will be Cuba. It's waiting, but let's finish this one first. We could do everything at the same time, but bad things happen," Trump said.
The president also explained that acting too quickly in multiple countries at the same time can lead to negative consequences.
"If you look at countries over the years, when you try to do everything too quickly, bad things happen. We are not going to let anything bad happen to this country," he assured.
Trump also expanded on his comments about Cuba and stated that his administration hopes the situation on the island will change over time.
He also stated that he hopes many Cubans will be able to return to the island in the future.
"Many incredible people are going to return to Cuba. I hope they don’t stay… we want them back and we don’t want to lose them, but some people probably do want to stay. They love Cuba so much, I hear it all the time," he commented.
Trump's statements came during a sports event at the White House, where Inter Miami was welcomed by the president and his team, with the prominent presence of Lionel Messi among the guests.
