The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated that U.S. military operations against Iran are ongoing and assured that the forces of the Iranian regime are suffering a severe blow amid the current offensive.
During an event held at the White House to honor the Inter Miami CF club, the President commented on the situation in Iran and stated that U.S. military actions have significantly weakened the operational capacity of the Iranian regime.
"We are completely demolishing the enemy, much earlier than expected and at levels that people have never seen before," he declared.
According to his explanation, the regime's forces have lost a significant portion of their military capabilities.
"They have no air force, they have no air defense, all their planes have disappeared, their communications have vanished, the missiles are gone, the launchers have disappeared: around 60% and 64%, respectively," Trump stated while describing the impact of the operations.
The official also issued a direct call to the members of the Iranian security forces to abandon the fight.
"Once again, I call on all members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, the army, and the police to lay down their arms. They are only going to be killed. Now is the time to stand up… and help take back your country," he said.
The statements were made at an event that was originally dedicated to sports.
The White House welcomed the Inter Miami team to celebrate the championship won in the MLS in December, in a ceremony that included the presence of Argentine star Lionel Messi, team players, and club executives.
During the ceremony, the footballers presented the president with a club jersey featuring the number 47, alluding to his position as the 47th president of the United States. The meeting also marked Messi's first visit to the White House.
Amid the relaxed atmosphere of the event, Trump also made comments about the situation in Cuba.
Addressing the Cuban-American businessman Jorge Mas, co-owner of Inter Miami alongside his brother José Mas, he suggested that changes could occur on the Island in the near future.
"Congratulations also to the co-owners, Jorge and José Mas. They came from Cuba, right?" commented Trump. He then added, "They will be coming back... oh, oh, oh. And they won't need my approval."
The official also hinted that there could be events related to Cuba in the coming weeks.
"Let's celebrate separately. I just wanted to wait a couple of weeks… but I suspect that we will soon be together again, celebrating what is happening in Cuba," he stated.
Trump also stated that the Cuban authorities would be interested in negotiating with Washington. "They have such a strong desire to reach an agreement. You have no idea," he expressed.
At another point in the event, the president mentioned Secretary of State Marco Rubio and suggested that he could play a key role in the policy towards Cuba.
"Your next project will be Cuba," he said.
The president also praised Rubio's role within his administration and stated that his performance will be regarded in the country's history.
"I tell you that he will be remembered as the best Secretary of State in the history of this country," he declared.
The statements come after Trump has indicated on several occasions that the Castro regime is facing a critical situation.
Although he did not provide details on specific measures or ongoing negotiations, Trump has reiterated that the situation could evolve in the near future and that his government's policy toward the island will continue to be a relevant topic on his international agenda.
