“I want to wait a couple of weeks,” said the President of the United States, Donald Trump, suggesting that changes could take place in Cuba during a comment directed at Cuban-American businessman José Mas, co-owner of the Inter Miami club.
The statements were made this Thursday during an event held at the White House with the MLS team, which included players, executives, and guests associated with the club.
Trump addressed Mas, who is of Cuban descent, and suggested that he might soon return to the island.
"I wanted to wait a couple of weeks, but I suspect that we will soon be together again, celebrating what is happening in Cuba," the leader stated.
The comment drew attention because the president spoke about the possibility of celebrating events related to the situation on the island without providing further details on what he meant.
During the same event, Trump also made other references to Cuba and suggested that the topic will be one of the key issues on the agenda of his administration.
At one point during the event, the president noted that the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, could handle that matter.
“Your next project will be Cuba,” Trump stated referring to the head of U.S. diplomacy.
The president also praised Rubio and stated that his management will be remembered in the country's history.
"I tell you that he will be remembered as the best Secretary of State in the history of this country," Trump declared during the same meeting.
The statements were made during the event with Inter Miami, which was attended by Argentine star Lionel Messi and other members of the club.
