The Miami-Dade Fire Department reported that its teams are still battling a fifth alarm fire in a warehouse located on the 20600 block of Northwest 47th Avenue, while operations continue to control the flames.

According to an update published by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR), more than 200 firefighters are on-site working to extinguish the fire using defensive operations. So far, no injuries have been reported.

Authorities also urged nearby residents, especially those with respiratory issues, the elderly, and young children, to stay indoors if possible.

The firefighters recommended closing doors and windows and setting the air conditioning to recirculation mode due to the thick smoke that has spread throughout the area.

The fire started around 10:45 in the morning at a warehouse located in the northwest of the county, according to the Miami-Dade Fire Department.

Telemundo 51 reported that images captured from their helicopter show large flames engulfing the structure as emergency crews try to control the fire.

Due to concerns about the integrity of the building, firefighters began defensive operations, using multiple aerial units to attack the fire from the outside.

More than 48 emergency units were initially deployed to the scene, with additional support from firefighters in the city of Miramar.

The dense columns of black smoke have been visible from various locations in the area, prompting authorities to issue a public safety alert via cell phones to warn residents of Miami-Dade County and South Broward.

The message sent to the public advises staying indoors, closing doors and windows, and following official updates as efforts to control the fire continue.

So far, no victims have been reported.
