The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Monday that the war against Iran is "practically over" and claimed that the country's military capabilities have been severely weakened following the attacks led by Washington.

In a telephone interview with CBS News, Trump stated that the offensive has destroyed much of Iran's military infrastructure and that the conflict is progressing much faster than initially expected.

"I believe the war is practically over," said the leader, who spoke from his golf club in Doral, Florida.

The president stated that Iran has lost a significant portion of its military capability.

"They have no navy, no communications, no air force. Their missiles are scattered, and their drones are being destroyed everywhere," he stated.

According to the U.S. Army, as reported by CBS News, U.S. forces have attacked over 3,000 targets in Iran during the first week of operations.

Trump also warned that Tehran would face serious consequences if it attempts to interfere in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic route through which nearly 20% of the world's oil supply passes.

"It will be the end for that country if they do something wrong," the president warned.

Meanwhile, the markets reacted to the president's statements.

According to the newspaper El País, Wall Street rose after Trump indicated that the conflict might be nearing its end, while oil prices fell after reaching levels close to 120 dollars early in the morning.

The same outlet also reported that the U.S. president held a phone conversation this Monday with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, in which they discussed the situation in Iran and other international matters.

The war began after a series of attacks by the United States and Israel against Iranian targets, leading to an escalation of tensions in the Middle East and significant fluctuations in global energy markets.

Although Trump stated that the conflict is progressing faster than expected, the Department of Defense published a message on social media the same day affirming that military operations are ongoing.

This Monday, Trump described the election of Mojtaba Jameneí as a “serious mistake” as the new supreme leader of Iran, amid the military conflict facing Tehran with Washington and Israel.

In statements to NBC, reported by the EFE agency, the U.S. president questioned the Iranian leadership's decision to place the son of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei at the head of the country.
