The President of the United States, Donald Trump, issued one of his sternest warnings against Iran by threatening a devastating military response if the country attempts to block the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important routes for global oil transportation.
The leader made the statements in a message posted on his profile on the social network Truth Social, where he warned that Washington would respond with much greater force if Tehran interferes with maritime passage.
“If Iran does anything to stop the flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz, it will be hit by the United States twenty times harder than it has been hit so far,” Trump wrote.
The president also stated that the United States could destroy targets that, he said, would prevent Iran from being able to rebuild itself as a nation in the future.
"Furthermore, we will eliminate targets that can be easily destroyed and that will make it practically impossible for Iran to rebuild as a nation," stated the leader in his message.
Trump added that this warning aims to protect maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, an area through which about one-fifth of the oil traded globally passes.
The president also stated that ensuring the security of that maritime route would benefit several countries that depend on it for energy supplies, including China.
“This is a gift from the United States to China and to all the nations that use the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump wrote at the end of his message.
