The President of the United States, Donald Trump, publicly praised Secretary of State Marco Rubio, noting his role in the administration's foreign policy and particularly in matters related to Cuba.

During statements made this Monday, Trump stated that Rubio is playing a key role in managing the situation with the island.

"Marco Rubio is doing an excellent job,” the president assured.

Trump noted that the head of U.S. diplomacy is working "at a very high level" on the Cuban issue, while emphasizing his influence within the government.

The president also stated that the Cuban government would be trying to engage in dialogue with Washington amid the deep economic crisis the country is experiencing.

"The Cuban government is talking to us. They are in big trouble. They have no money, they have nothing right now, but they are talking to us," he stated.

Trump described Cuba as “a nation that is failing” and stated that the country is facing a critical situation marked by a lack of basic resources.

“They have no money, no oil, no food. Right now, it is a country with serious problems… and they want our help,” he said.

In that context, the leader also hinted that the future of the island could involve a possible political transition, which, according to his words, could occur in a friendly manner or under other scenarios.

"Perhaps we will have a friendly match in Cuba... after so many years," he commented.

Rubio, who assumed the position of Secretary of State in January 2025, became the first Hispanic to lead U.S. diplomacy, solidifying his role as an influential figure within the Trump administration and in Washington's strategy towards Latin America.
