An initiative from the commerce sector in the municipality of Manicaragua, Villa Clara, sparked mixed reactions on social media following the publication of images of a hearty soup donated by the collective of the Jagüey Bonito store to expectant mothers at the Maternal Home.

The information was shared on Facebook by Comercio Gastronomía Manicaragua, which explained that the preparation was part of solidarity actions initiated by workers in the sector amidst the current energy contingencies affecting the country.

According to the official publication, the preparation of caldosa in communities is part of local trade initiatives to support vulnerable institutions during blackouts and challenges.

However, the image and the message sparked numerous criticisms among social media users, who questioned the precariousness depicted in the scene and the origin of the food used.

"A store 'donating' soup, where did they get the ingredients? That's a diversion of resources," commented Felipe Salazar Torres.

Other users expressed sadness or indignation. Clara Pérez wrote: “What a sad country, something never seen before,” while Reynier Flanders Paris described the situation as “chronicles of misery.”

There were also comments questioning whether such a gesture should be presented as an achievement. "Do you consider that an accomplishment? A soup," noted Uberlandi Montero.

Some users, however, defended the initiative. Castell Titica considered it "a lovely gesture," while Magdelay López congratulated the store owner for the action.

The images and the ensuing debate reflect the atmosphere of social frustration amidst the economic and food crisis the country is experiencing, where even small acts of solidarity become a subject of public controversy.
