Social media users reported that at least one person was arrested during the early morning protests in the Lawton neighborhood of Diez de Octubre municipality in Havana, amid growing discontent over the prolonged blackouts affecting the Cuban capital.
Videos and messages posted on social media X indicate that the protests by residents in the area have resulted in at least one person being detained.
According to reports circulated online, residents of the neighborhood attempted to prevent the arrest of the protester, causing moments of tension in the area, where police patrols and personnel popularly known as "black berets," a special forces unit of the Ministry of the Interior used in control and repression operations, arrived.
The images shared on social media also show people recording the events, while some witnesses claim that regime agents are filming the protests to later identify the participants.
The reports coincide with another alert from Ceballos, in the province of Ciego de Ávila, where residents claim that more than ten people were detained after participating in protests that took place over the weekend.
These protests are occurring amid the energy crisis that Cuba is experiencing, which has caused prolonged blackouts in several provinces of the country, leading to growing discontent among the population.
In the past five days, there have been reports of pot-banging and nighttime protests in various neighborhoods of Havana, including Vedado, El Cerro, Marianao, and Plaza de la Revolución.
