The Cuban-American Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar stated this Friday that “the Cuban people are ready” and asserted that “freedom for Cuba is on the way”, in a message where she supported President Donald Trump's stance on the situation in the Island.

In her statement, Salazar asserted that for "more than six decades" Cubans have suffered from "repression, misery, and fear" under "a regime of despots clinging to power."

According to the text, the congresswoman described the Cuban political system as a "tyranny" that would today be "weaker than ever."

The official attributed that supposed weakening to "the weight of its own failures," a formulation that portrayed a scenario of internal weariness within the regime.

From that reading, he concluded that the Cuban people are ready for a change and reiterated his expectation that freedom will come to Cuba: "The Cuban people are ready. And freedom for Cuba is on the way."

The statement begins with an explicit agreement with Trump. "President Trump is right", the text starts, before linking his assessment of the crisis in the Cuban system and the moment, in his view, that the country is experiencing.

His publication comes after Donald Trump stated this Friday in remarks to CNN that the Cuban regime is interested in negotiating with Washington, and claimed that Havana "is eager to reach an agreement."

During a phone interview with journalist Dana Bash, the president made the assertion while discussing what he described as the military successes of his administration during the current term.

In the midst of the conversation, he brought up the subject of Cuba in an apparently spontaneous manner, according to the American network.

"Cuba will fall very soon, by the way, not related (to the topic under discussion), but Cuba will also fall. They are eager to reach an agreement," Trump stated.

The president insisted that the Cuban government would be interested in some form of understanding with the United States and hinted that his administration could delegate the matter to his Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.

He also stated that he has been observing the political evolution of the island for decades, and suggested that the current moment could represent an opportunity for change.
