Neighbors from the municipality of El Cotorro, in Havana, are staging a pot-banging protest this Thursday during a nighttime blackout, marking what would be the seventh consecutive day of demonstrations against the electricity crisis in the Cuban capital.

Videos disseminated on social media by activist Magdiel Jorge Castro capture the sound of pots and shouts of protest while the neighborhood remains almost in the dark due to the power outage.

“We can’t take it anymore… endless days and nights,” can be heard in one of the messages accompanying the video shared from the area.

The blackout was so intense that the recordings hardly distinguish the protesters, although the sounds of pots and the slogans against the regime are clearly heard.

At the beginning of this evening, a protest was also reported in El Cerro, where residents set fire to a garbage bin, necessitating the intervention of the firefighters.

From Matanzas, the intellectual Alina Bárbara López Hernández also reported protests against power outages.

The cacerolazo in El Cotorro joins other demonstrations recorded in various neighborhoods of Havana over the past few days, including Lawton, Santos Suárez, Vedado, Guanabacoa, La Lisa, and El Cerro.

The protests are taking place amid prolonged blackouts that have affected thousands of Havana residents, creating an atmosphere of increasing social tension in the capital.
