Residents of the El Cerro municipality in Havana staged a pot-banging protest on Tuesday night amidst prolonged power outages affecting the Cuban capital.

The incident was reported on social media by journalist Mario J. Pentón, who raised concerns about the protests in that area after several days without a stable electricity supply.

"Casserole protests are ringing out in El Cerro, following days of power outages," he noted.

So far, there are also reports of protests in El Vedado and in the province of Santiago de Cuba, following a day of complete darkness due to the disconnection of the National Electroenergetic System (SEN).

The pot-banging protest joins other similar demonstrations recently recorded in various parts of the country, where citizens have expressed their discontent over prolonged blackouts, food shortages, and the deterioration of basic services.

In recent months, this type of protest has become increasingly common in Cuba, especially during power outages, as a form of spontaneous demonstration in response to the crisis the island is experiencing.
