An international convoy will depart from Mexico heading to Cuba loaded with solar panels, as part of an initiative aimed at alleviating the prolonged blackouts affecting the island amidst its energy crisis.
According to Telesur, the shipment is part of a mission organized by the so-called "Our America Convoy," which will set sail on March 20 from the port of Progreso with supplies deemed essential, another demonstration of Mexico's financial support for the Cuban regime.
"The mission is supported by the Global Sumud Flotilla, known for its work in the Gaza Strip, and has the explicit backing of figures such as Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, who have come together to challenge the blockade imposed by Washington on the Caribbean island," the broadcaster emphasized.
Although there are also food and medicines, the cargo primarily consists of solar panels intended to alleviate the collapse of the Cuban electrical system, which has been impacted by a lack of fuel and structural limitations in energy generation.
The initiative also includes the departure of other vessels from Isla Mujeres, aimed at delivering aid to Havana in the coming days.
The shipment occurs amid a severe crisis in Cuba, where blackouts have intensified and are affecting both the population and key sectors such as hospitals, transportation, and essential services.
Although this type of assistance may provide temporary relief, the instability of the electrical system is due to structural issues that have accumulated over the years, which continue to affect the daily lives of Cubans.
