Cuban-American congresswoman María Elvira Salazar urged President Donald Trump to take action regarding the crisis in Cuba, supporting the call from opposition leader Rosa María Payá amid the increasing economic and social deterioration on the Island.

Salazar stated on social media that the Cuban regime is incapable of reforming itself and only sustains itself through repression and control.

The regime does not reform. It represses, controls, and survives on fear. “It can't even keep the country with electricity,” he stated.

The lawmaker's statement comes in response to a message from Rosa María Payá, who had directly pointed to Trump: "This is the time to act," referring to the internal crisis facing Cuba and the rise in social discontent.

The congresswoman认为 that the U.S. president has a key opportunity to influence the future of the Island.

“President Donald Trump has a unique opportunity to help free the Cuban people and firmly stand on the side of freedom,” he stated.

The statements come in a context marked by prolonged blackouts, food shortages, and a sustained deterioration of living conditions, factors that have increased tensions in various parts of the country.

Salazar's call adds to the voices from the exile community and the opposition demanding greater international pressure on the Cuban regime at a time they consider crucial for driving change on the Island.
