Mexico's President, Claudia Sheinbaum, stated this Thursday that her government is evaluating alternatives to continue sending oil to Cuba amid the energy crisis the island is facing, thus demonstrating that it continues to finance the regime in Havana.

During her morning conference, the leader noted that "different schemes" are currently being analyzed to maintain support, although she did not provide specific details about the options under consideration.

Sheinbaum reiterated that Mexico is a sovereign country with the right to establish trade agreements with any nation.

"We are sovereign in having a trade agreement with any country in the world," he stated.

Likewise, she defended sending aid to Cuba by highlighting the difficult situation the population is facing.

"We are looking for ways to continue helping the Cuban people," he expressed.

The statements come in the context of widespread blackouts on the Island, caused by fuel shortages, which have further exacerbated the already complex economic and social situation in the country.

The official also assured that there is support within Mexico for humanitarian aid to Cuba, amid the political debate this issue generates in various sectors.

The potential shipment of oil comes at a critical moment, characterized by the energy crisis in Cuba and international pressures on fuel supplies to the Island.

In January, the oil tanker Ocean Mariner arrived in the bay of Havana with nearly 86,000 barrels of fuel from Mexico, which was the last shipment of oil from the Aztec nation to the Cuban regime.
