A noticeable earthquake with a magnitude of 4.6 was recorded on the evening of this Wednesday in eastern Cuba, with reports coming in from several provinces in the region.
According to information from the Cuban National Seismological Service, the earthquake occurred at 8:55 p.m. (local time) and was located 39 kilometers southwest of Maisí, in Guantánamo, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
So far, reports of perceptibility have been received from locations in Guantánamo, Santiago de Cuba, and Holguín.
The event was confirmed as the fifth noticeable earthquake in Cuba so far in 2026.
Authorities indicated that this tremor constitutes an aftershock of the 6.0 magnitude earthquake that occurred the previous day, keeping the eastern region of the country on alert.
As of the information cutoff (9:30 p.m.), no material damage or casualties had been reported.
The eastern region of Cuba is one of the areas with the highest seismic activity in the country, due to its proximity to the Oriente Fault, one of the main tectonic structures in the Caribbean.
This new event occurs in a context already marked by tension after the previous earthquake, which has raised concerns among the residents of the area.
