A protest was called this Friday at Miami International Airport against a convoy heading to Cuba, amid criticism regarding the handling of aid sent to the island.

The call was made by Phil Ehr, a retired U.S. Navy commander and congressional candidate from Florida, who denounced on the social network X the situation of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents and the fate of the supplies sent to Cuba.

According to Ehr, the TSA officials are "at their limit" during the current partial government shutdown, working without pay while they continue processing shipments to the island.

"They are forced to process supply convoys for the communist regime of Cuba, where the dictatorship confiscates any aid intended for hospitals and never allows it to reach the people," he stated.

The former military officer also criticized Congressman Carlos Giménez for what he believes is his silence regarding this situation.

The protest was called for this Friday, March 20, at 9:30 a.m. at Terminal G of Miami International Airport, ahead of the convoy's departure to Havana.

In another post, Ehr stated that he attended the protest alongside another former soldier and criticized the low turnout.

"Today my brother from the Navy and I stood alone facing the CodePink convoy."

"We were the only two voices there," she wrote.

He also accused political figures of misinforming the Cuban-American community and questioned the absence of local leaders at the demonstration.

The call comes against a backdrop of increasing political tension surrounding the sending of aid to Cuba, with criticism from exile groups and political figures who argue that these resources end up under the control of the regime and do not directly benefit the population.
