The United States Embassy in Cuba issued a security alert this Thursday due to reports of possible demonstrations and gatherings in Havana over the weekend.
According to the notice, media outlets have reported on protests in support of the Cuban regime and against U.S. policy, as well as a possible demonstration at the Malecón on March 21.
The diplomatic mission urged its citizens to avoid crowded areas and take extra precautions in light of this situation.
Additionally, avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place, refrain from participating in crowds, stay alert to your surroundings, anticipate increased police presence, consider possible traffic diversions and transport disruptions, and follow local media for updates.
The alert comes at a time of growing social discontent in Cuba, characterized by prolonged blackouts, shortages, and reports of protests in various provinces of the country.
In recent days, pot-banging protests and spontaneous demonstrations have been reported in various areas, increasing international attention on the situation on the island.
