Three years after the brutal attack that nearly cost him his life, Lester Domínguez continues to face a complex recovery process, as shared by his father, Dennis Domínguez, on social media.

In a , the father recalled that “tomorrow marks 3 years since the tragic assault on the child Lester, which could have ended his life,” while recalling the incident that occurred in March 2023 in Holguín.

In his testimony, he described the severity of the consequences left by the attack: “a machete wound to the neck that has left lifelong repercussions,” and explained that, although there have been advancements, the process has been extremely difficult.

"Although he has managed to recover from the ventilator, the tracheostomy, and the pressure sores, he remains a C5 patient," she noted, referring to the spinal injury that keeps the young man with severe mobility limitations.

According to the details provided, Lester is experiencing issues in several parts of his body: "with problems in both the upper and lower parts of his body, which he has not yet been able to overcome," although he has shown improvement in the upper part.

The father also mentioned the challenges of continuing the treatment in Cuba: “Let’s hope a way can be found given the conditions in the country, to see if surgery can be performed on an inverted vertebra to continue with his therapy.”

Additionally, he expressed gratitude for the support received over the years and warned about the context of insecurity: "We are very grateful to the thousands of people who have always been interested in the health and evolution of this process," and he urged the population to "take care of themselves and avoid being in the wrong places, as violence has increased in Cuba."

The case dates back to March 2023, when the young man, then 16 years old, was attacked with a machete to steal his cell phone in Holguín, an incident that left him in critical condition.

As a result, he suffered an incomplete C5 spinal cord injury that keeps him in a wheelchair. Since then, he has undergone multiple medical interventions and a prolonged rehabilitation process, with partial progress but still unable to regain the ability to walk.

In this process, he has faced severe complications, including tracheostomy, mechanical ventilation, and the need for further interventions, such as surgery on his neck vertebrae that remains pending, as explained in the request for assistance to obtain an orthopedic collar and in the information about the surgery he was to undergo.

His story has also garnered displays of support, such as from the boxer Yordenis Ugás, who closely followed his progress and publicly expressed his shock in a message dedicated to the young man.

Three years after the attack, Lester continues his rehabilitation, engaged in a constant struggle to improve his condition, while his family holds onto the hope that he can continue to progress in his recovery.
