The young Cuban Dayan Navarro Acosta passed away after spending more than a month hospitalized, following a fall from a great height inside the Frank País Mill in Santiago de Cuba.
The news was confirmed on Thursday by independent communicator Yosmany Mayeta Labrada on Facebook.
"After several weeks fighting for his life, 21-year-old Dayan Navarro Acosta passed away this afternoon. He had suffered a serious fall from a great height inside the Molino Frank País, located on the Tourist Road of Santiago de Cuba," wrote Mayeta.
According to the information, the accident caused Dayan extremely serious injuries. He suffered a severe impact after falling from a height equivalent to several stories.
"It caused severe injuries, mainly to the head," he detailed.
After the incident, Navarro Acosta was urgently transferred to the Joaquín Castillo Duany Military Hospital, where he remained in critical condition for several days.
The accident occurred on January 13.
Testimonials gathered at the time indicated that the young man did not work at the center. Apparently, he entered as a "ninja," a term used to describe people who illegally access facilities to steal.
The impact was concentrated mainly on the head, which explains the rapid deterioration of his health during the first hours following the fall.
Mayeta explained that Dayán was able to be discharged at one point, but he couldn't return home due to logistical issues within the hospital system: there was no ambulance available. He remained hospitalized at the Saturnino Lora Provincial Hospital due to his delicate health condition.
Ultimately, he could not overcome the serious injuries and passed away.
Navarro Acosta lived in the Santiago neighborhood of Altamira. He was married and the father of a child under one year old. His passing caused shock among family, friends, and neighbors.
The burial will take place this Friday at noon. His loved ones confirmed to Mayeta that his farewell will reflect his personality and tastes, "with music and beer, 'as he liked'."
In January, when the news broke, one of the most concerning aspects surrounding the case was the report of an alleged lack of immediate assistance following the fall.
According to testimonies gathered at that time, the young man did not receive immediate assistance from security personnel or other individuals present at the scene when the accident occurred, which raised questions about possible responsibilities.
