The Cuban-American congressman Carlos A. Giménez expressed his support for the President of the United States, Donald Trump, regarding his policy towards Cuba, and sent a message of support for a potential change on the island.
Through the social network X, Giménez thanked Trump's leadership in relation to the Cuban regime and highlighted the sentiment of the Cuban community in Florida.
"Thank you, President Trump, for your leadership against the despicable regime in Cuba. Our community in Florida will always be grateful. Let's make Cuba great again!" wrote the lawmaker.
The statement adds to other recent declarations from high-ranking U.S. officials, such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who labeled Cuba as “a disaster” and directly blamed the communist system for the crisis the country is facing.
During an interview with Fox News, Rubio stated that the situation on the island is a result of decades of failed policies under the regime.
"Cuba is a disaster, and it's the fault of its communist government. It doesn't work. It has been this way for 67 years. It's worse than ever," he stated.
The statements from Giménez and Rubio come amid increasing pressure from Washington on Havana, within a deep economic and social crisis characterized by blackouts, shortages, and a deterioration of the living conditions of the population.
Giménez, representative for Florida and one of the most active voices of the Cuban exile community in Congress, has repeatedly expressed her support for stronger measures against the regime and her backing for initiatives aimed at promoting political change on the island.
