The early morning of March 15 left a shocking scene in Jagüey Grande, Matanzas. What began as an argument among young people escalated into a violent fight with knives that has left the entire community in shock.
The incident occurred near the nightclub “El Mambo,” on 13th Street in the municipality. Witnesses indicate that the altercation started in a nearby park and then moved outside the venue, where the situation escalated.
Among the victims is Marco Antonio Guerra González, 28 years old, known as "Marquito el Barbero," a young man described by neighbors as beloved and respected. According to consistent accounts, he tried to mediate in the fight but was brutally attacked.
According to reports circulating on social media, he was stabbed multiple times in the back, affecting vital organs, in addition to suffering a severe beating that caused fractures to his skull. He did not survive the injuries.
The incident also left his brother, Dayan Guerra, 22 years old, severely injured, having been attacked with multiple stab wounds and remains in critical condition, according to reports. Family members have requested prayer chains for his recovery while they cope with the pain of their loss.
A third individual was identified as "Yimi." His gang is said to have attacked Maikel. In the midst of the confrontation, Maikel's brother intervened and allegedly caused the death of "Yimi," reported the news reporter Niover Licea.
The Facebook profile “Con Todos La Victoria”, linked to the Ministry of the Interior, indicates that the confrontation involved the use of knives and machetes, and that several of those involved were arrested shortly thereafter. However, many questions remain among the residents, who demand more precise explanations.
In the midst of mourning, the pain has become visible on social media. “You didn’t deserve something like this, you were a good kid loved by everyone,” wrote a close friend, reflecting the feelings of a community in distress.
Questions have also arisen regarding the possible lack of timely intervention. Some reports point to an alleged negligence on the part of the security personnel at the site, which may have allowed the violence to escalate to a fatal outcome.
Today, Jagüey Grande not only mourns the death of a young person, but also revives a growing concern with the increase of violence among youth and the feeling of insecurity in public spaces.
