A young man was rescued alive on Sunday afternoon after falling from the well-known La Lisa bridge in Havana, in an incident that caused significant tension among neighbors and passersby who witnessed the scene.
According to information shared by the Facebook profile La Tijera, units from the Fire Department responded swiftly and were able to assist the young man, who was in a difficult-to-reach area after the fall. The rescue efforts took place amidst the anticipation and concern of those present in the vicinity.
Witnesses reported that, after being rescued, the arrival of an ambulance was awaited, which took time to reach the site. So far, no official details have been provided regarding the health status of the affected individual or the circumstances that led to the fall.
The event took place at the Arango Bridge, popularly known as the La Lisa Bridge, an emblematic structure that marks the boundary between that municipality and Marianao. Constructed between 1827 and 1832 by the French engineer Arsenio Locaterre Lotoser, it was regarded at the time as one of the most important engineering works of the 19th century in Cuba.
Built with ashlar stone and labor from Mallorca, the bridge was designed to facilitate communication along the ancient Western Road and is named in honor of Francisco de Arango y Parreño.
The authorities have not yet provided additional information about the incident, while anticipation grows regarding the recovery of the rescued young man.
