The mayor of Miami-Dade, Daniella Levine Cava, expressed her support for the Cuban people and called for freedom for the island in a message shared on social media.
According to a video posted on her X profile, the official stated that Miami is the capital of the Cuban diaspora and emphasized the historical connection of the community with the struggle for freedom, marked by decades of separation and repression.
Levine Cava and expressed concern over reports of negotiations involving figures linked to the Castro family. In this regard, she noted that a change within the same structure would not represent a real shift.
“Swapping one figure from the Castro dynasty for another is not a transition; it is a continuation,” he stated, rejecting any attempts to maintain political control under new figures associated with the same system.
The mayor insisted that true justice in Cuba will be achieved when there are no political prisoners, families can live with dignity, and access to food and electricity is ensured without prolonged blackouts.
He also emphasized that the change must be accompanied by fundamental liberties, including freedom of expression and citizen participation in the country's future.
"Miami-Dade stands with the people of Cuba, not their oppressors. Freedom for Cuba," he concluded in his message.
The statements come in a context of increasing international pressure and expectations regarding possible changes on the island, while the Cuban exile community maintains its active demand for political transformations.
