The Cuban journalist Náyare Menoyo starred in a tense televised confrontation on the channel Cuatro with Pablo Fernández, the Secretary of Organization of Podemos, during which she revealed that she has blocked her own mother on the phone for three days.

The confrontation took place on the program Código 10 this Tuesday. The main topic was the controversial international flotilla Nuestra América, which arrived in Havana with over 20 tons of humanitarian aid and activists from 33 countries, including Pablo Iglesias.

"Have you ever blocked your mother? I have had my mother blocked for three days so she can't see me. Do you know why? Because she's afraid that her daughter won't be allowed back into the country. That's not caused by the embargo. That's caused by the dictatorship," Menoyo stated live.

The spokesperson for Podemos defended the Cuban dictatorship without yielding to the journalist's arguments. He claimed that he receives "death threats" for supporting the regime in Havana and calling for an end to the U.S. embargo on Cuba.

In a debate the day before, Fernández attributed the Cuban humanitarian crisis to the U.S. embargo, which he labeled as "genocide" and "energy suffocation." On that occasion, Menoyo was unequivocal in pointing out the true culprit behind the situation on the island.

"The one responsible for the humanitarian crisis in Cuba is solely the dictatorship that has been in power for over 65 years. (...) In Cuba, there is a dictatorship, and you, who claim to belong to a party that champions human rights, do not acknowledge that it is a dictatorship," said the Cuban woman.

This week in Madrid, several Cubans dismantled Podemos' speeches for supporting the dictatorship

The journalist also publicly challenged Pablo Iglesias, who during his recent trip to Havana stayed at the Gran Hotel Bristol, a five-star hotel, with rooms ranging from 130 to 520 dollars per night.

"I invite you to spend a few days at my house in Cuba... without euros or food, living on what you're given," he said. Iglesias, after meeting with authorities from the Cuban Communist Party, stated that the situation in Cuba was not as serious as it appeared from the outside.

Náyare Menoyo is the winner of the International Journalism Award King of Spain in the Television category in 2021, for her documentary on the writer Leonardo Padura.
