Miguel Díaz-Canel publicly expressed his support for the repressive organs of the State Security in Cuba and thanked its members, attributing to them a key role in the defense of the political system.
The message was posted on his account on social media platform X, where the leader praised the so-called State Security Organs and acknowledged their work within the regime's apparatus.
"I embrace our brave fighters from the State Security Organs, to whom we owe so much for their defense of the Homeland, often anonymous and perilous," he wrote.
Díaz-Canel also extended his recognition to the founders, leaders, officers, and other members of these structures, whom he described as protagonists of "heroic missions" that are part of the official history of the Revolution.
In parallel, the official profile of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) on Facebook circulated a tribute message signed by spokesperson Henry Omar Pérez Yera, in which the role of these agencies was praised as “a solid shield” against alleged threats to the regime.
The text states that State Security has faced "more than 600 attempts" against Fidel Castro and presents it as a guardian of "national sovereignty," while also portraying its members as "anonymous heroes" who act in silence.
It also includes a quote from Raúl Castro emphasizing the "indispensable" presence of these bodies in light of what the official discourse describes as external threats.
Both messages reinforce the regime's propaganda, portraying State Security as a fundamental pillar of the system, amidst allegations from international organizations and activists regarding its role in surveillance, repression, and control of dissent on the island.
The statements come in the context of rising social discontent in Cuba, characterized by the economic crisis, blackouts, and restrictions on civil liberties.
