The recent attacks on oil infrastructure in Russia have added pressure to an already strained global energy market, with consequences that directly impact vulnerable economies such as the Cuban one.

For at least five days, Ukraine has been targeting key points of the Russian economy, specifically related to fuel. One of these attacks was on the port of Ust-Luga and caused a fire at a plant that processes gas and exports petroleum products.

Oilprice reported that the disruptions in key ports of the Baltic Sea, along with other disruptions such as tensions in strategic international routes, have significantly reduced the global oil supply.

In this context, the price of Brent crude has surpassed 100 dollars, raising the import costs for dependent countries. Cuba, with its limited financial capacity and strong reliance on external energy, is among the most affected.

Russia continues to reap benefits from rising prices, but the decreased availability of crude oil complicates access for partners such as Havana, which is competing under disadvantaged conditions in the international market. Cuba, caught between international tensions

Washington maintains a firm policy against the , which adds a geopolitical component to the Cuban energy crisis.

The active monitoring of maritime traffic in the region reflects the sensitivity of the moment, where any movement could escalate tensions between the United States and Russia.

Amid this scenario, Cuba finds itself caught in a global dynamic that limits its options and deepens the internal crisis, characterized by blackouts, shortages, and increasing social unrest.
