A Cuban resident in Spain posted a video on TikTok this Tuesday showing a sign in Torrelavega, Cantabria, with the slogan "Cuba is not alone. Against the blockade and imperialist war."

The visual material is part of a solidarity campaign with the Cuban regime promoted by leftist organizations in Spain. According to the information released, the promoters called for a gathering in the Plaza Mayor of Torrelavega for Saturday, March 21, as part of an international day of support for Havana.

The initiative is linked to the Interpueblos network, a platform that brings together 65 associations in the country and has organized similar events in several Spanish cities over the past few weeks.

The context of these mobilizations is set against the decision of the U.S. president Donald Trump, who in January 2026 declared a national emergency due to threats from the Cuban government, hardening Washington's stance towards Havana.

However, Trump himself also noted in later statements that he has no problem with a Russian tanker delivering fuel to Cuba, a position that some analysts deemed contradictory to the tightening of the blockade.

It is worth noting that the term "blockade" is questioned by several experts, as U.S. legislation does not prohibit trade from third countries with the island, which distinguishes the embargo from a total blockade in the strictest sense.

Alongside these concentrations in support of the regime, there have also been demonstrations in Spain with an opposing stance. Cuban citizens held protests in front of the Cuban embassy in Madrid to demand freedom and an end to the dictatorship, in response to the upheavals that have occurred on the island.

Similarly, in the Canary Islands, Cubans from the diaspora gathered at the Plaza de España in Tenerife, with slogans such as "Freedom for Cuba" and "Down with the dictatorship," highlighting the division of opinions among Cubans residing in Spanish territory.

From the realm of cooperation, progressive organizations have also promoted a solidarity container organized by SODePAZ destined for Cuban hospitals, loaded with medical equipment and computers, as part of the material support initiatives for the government of Miguel Díaz-Canel.
