A woman from Santiago made an emotional appeal to President Donald Trump to intervene in Cuba, in a video published by the opposition organization UNPACU and shared on social media by José Daniel Ferrer.

"Here we are in an oppressed, defeated, worn-out, suffering Cuba, but fighting for freedom", says the woman at the beginning of the message, recorded under conditions that reflect the crisis the island is experiencing.

The woman expresses her gratitude for the support from Cubans in exile and directs her appeal directly to the American president.

"We would like to thank everyone, especially President Donald Trump, for any intervention in any way to free us from the Castro-communism of Canel that oppresses us," he asserted.

In her message, the woman starkly described the situation faced by the Cuban people: "We are being starved, with blackouts, lack of medicine, and more, they are devastating the Cuban population."

The woman from Santiago was emphatic in distinguishing between assistance and political action: "It's not humanitarian aid, it's intervention so that our country can live in total freedom."

He also demanded the release of the political prisoners and paid tribute to those who have given their lives for the cause.

"Freedom for political prisoners. Glory to those who have died in the struggle for Cuba's freedom," he stated.

He concluded his intervention with an urgent statement: "Homeland and life. It’s time for freedom for this people. We need it!"

Ferrer, exiled in Miami since October 2025 after being released at the request of the U.S. government, described the message as brave, clear, precise, and forceful and called for collective action.

"All mothers and grandmothers in Cuba, all fathers and grandfathers in Cuba, the children, the grandchildren, all Cubans should always take decisive and brave stances, like this lady did," he said.

The video emerges in the midst of an unprecedented crisis. Since January 2026, the capture of Nicolás Maduro by U.S. forces severed Venezuela's oil supply to Cuba, which accounted for between 80% and 90% of Cuban imports, triggering blackouts of up to 20 hours a day, food shortages, and the collapse of the healthcare system.

The outcry from this Santiago grandmother joins a documented movement both inside and outside the island. In January, a young Cuban asked Trump: "Daddy Trump... please, put an end to this now, because we really can't take it anymore." In March, journalist Oliya Scootercaster reported from Havana that the most frequently asked question on the streets was, When is Trump coming?

Trump dismissed military intervention on March 13, although he spoke of a possible amicable acquisition of Cuba, while the Díaz-Canel regime confirmed that it is holding dialogues with representatives of the U.S. government and released 51 political prisoners out of more than 1,200 documented, stating that the Cuban political system "is non-negotiable."
