The Cuban regime has been preventing political prisoner Saylí Navarro from visiting her father, also a political prisoner Félix Navarro, confined in Agüica prison in Matanzas, as reported this Thursday by the Cuban Observatory of Human Rights (OCDH).

The complaint was made by Sonia Álvarez Campillo, mother of Saylí and wife of Félix, who explained that her daughter is entitled to be taken to see her father every 45 days, which means that the regime has denied at least three consecutive visitation opportunities.

When Saylí requested an explanation, the director of the prison La Bellotex, in Matanzas, where she is serving her sentence, replied that "they had no fuel to take anyone anywhere due to the situation with fuel."

Sonia Álvarez rejected that justification and questioned, "What fuel does the head of prisons and correctional facilities in the province of Matanzas use to travel to the institutions? They are not going to solve any problems because the issues are still there: there is no food, no water, no electricity, nothing."

The mother also questioned the use of resources for repression: "What fuel do the patrols use to repress the opponents, to repress the Damas de Blanco, to repress the people? Then there is no fuel for the prisoners."

Saylí Navarro was arrested on July 12, 2021, one day after the protests on 11J in Perico, Matanzas, while she was heading to a police station to inquire about detained protesters.

She was sentenced to eight years in prison on charges of "assault."

Your case has accumulated a series of additional grievances: the authorities denied you a reduction to a less severe regime for six months, and you have repeatedly rejected the pressures to accept exile.

Regarding his father, he has also been serving a sentence since the protests on July 11, 2021. Although he was released last year, the People's Supreme Court revoked the benefit on April 29, 2025 after determining that he left his municipality without authorization on seven occasions, which the regime used as a pretext to return him to prison.
