A 13-year-old boy was assaulted at knifepoint this Friday in Cárdenas, in the province of Matanzas, when a man intercepted him near a basic secondary school and forced him, with the weapon to his neck, to hand over his BMX bike.

Thus, reported in the group Cardenenses on Facebook user Christian Arbolaez, who received the testimony directly from the victim's mother.

The most alarming part of the incident is that the attacker allegedly placed a knife to his neck to force him to hand over the means of transportation, the mother emphasized.

This incident adds to a series of violent events that have shaken Cárdenas in recent months.

In February, the blind retiree Pablo Vega passed away after being assaulted while waiting in line at a bank in the city.

At the end of March, several masked armed individuals assaulted two women in the Pueblo Nuevo Norte neighborhood, in another incident that highlighted the decline of public safety in the municipality.

The situation is not exclusive to Cárdenas. On April 3rd, a young Cuban was the victim of an armed robbery on the Managua highway, near the La Chorrera bridge, in the Arroyo Naranjo municipality, south of Havana.

According to recent data, Cuba recorded 2,833 verified crimes in Cuba, a 115% increase compared to previous periods, indicating a national public security crisis.

This is compounded by the institutional weakening of law enforcement, as reports indicate that 20% of their personnel left the force in the last year, which worsens the ability to respond to these types of crimes.
