An American citizen was arrested this Monday in Marathon, Florida, after Miami Sector agents intercepted the vehicle in Marathon Key, in the Florida Keys, catching the driver transporting illegal immigrants to work sites in exchange for cash.

The head of the Miami Sector, Samuel B. Briggs II, reported the arrest through his official account on X, where he detailed the operation.

"Agents from the Miami Sector intercepted a vehicle in Marathon, where a U.S. citizen was caught knowingly transporting illegal immigrants to work sites in exchange for cash. The agents apprehended the three illegal immigrants and the driver. The driver will be brought before the prosecution for processing, and the vehicle was confiscated," stated Briggs.

The driver faces federal charges for human trafficking, a crime that carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison for each immigrant transported, according to current U.S. legislation.

The Florida Keys constitute a corridor between the Caribbean and the U.S. mainland frequently used by human trafficking networks. This area has historically been one of the most active points in human smuggling operations towards U.S. territory.
