Raúl Alejandro Palmero Fernández, first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Young Communist League in Havana and a deputy of the National Assembly of People's Power, insulted President Donald Trump this Saturday on his Twitter account, calling him a "deranged pedophile mandarin" in response to the new measures announced by Washington against Cuba.

"Disoriented, the deranged mandarin p3dophile announces new measures, signed 3 pamphlets, and threatened to send an aircraft carrier to our shores," wrote Palmero under the hashtag #LaPatriaSeDefiende.

The official also stated that "approximately 6.2 million signatures against the War and the Blockade" were collected and that "more than 500,000 residents of Havana marched this May 1st," referring to the political event held yesterday in front of the United States Embassy on the Malecón in Havana.

Palmero's statements come one day after Trump signed a new executive order to expand sanctions against Cuba, which blocks all assets within the United States of individuals, companies, or organizations that engage with sanctioned Cuban entities in sectors such as energy, mining, defense, security, and financial services.

The decree also pressures foreign banks to facilitate transactions with the Cuban government, exposing them to account closures on Wall Street or the prohibition of operating in dollars.

In addition to economic measures, Trump asserted that the United States would take control of Cuba "almost immediately" after the war in Iran concluded, during a private dinner at the Forum Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, and threatened to send the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier to the island's shores.

The reactions from the Cuban regime were swift. President Miguel Díaz-Canel described the measures as "genocidal" and evidence of the "moral poverty" of the U.S. government, while Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez condemned them as "unilateral, illegal, and abusive".

The march on May 1st was moved from the Plaza de la Revolución to the José Martí Anti-Imperialist Tribune, in front of the United States Embassy, under the slogan "The Homeland is Defended." Raúl Castro presided over the event in his first public appearance since December 2025, when he received two books with over 6.2 million signatures from the government campaign "My Signature for the Homeland."

Critics pointed out that the relocation of the venue aimed to conceal the low turnout at the parade. On the eve of the event, independent journalist Ángel Cuza was arrested in front of his daughter.

Palmero has a history of digital activism in defense of the regime: his account @rpalmero1 was linked to the DeZurdaTeam network, from which Twitter suspended 526 accounts in 2022 for violating its rules, although his account remained active.

The new sanctions add to more than 240 measures accumulated since January 2026, a period during which Cuban energy imports plummeted by 80% to 90%, leading to daily blackouts lasting between 10 and 25 hours in over 55% of the national territory.
