The singer Leoni Torres posted on his Facebook account the phrase "Long live a free Cuba!!!" accompanied by a photograph taken during a concert, where he can be seen with his back to the audience, dressed in white and holding the Cuban flag with his arm raised.
The message alongside the image, which held a strong symbolic significance, sparked an avalanche of comments from Cuban followers both on and off the island, expressing their desire for freedom and admiration for the artist.
Among the most resonant responses was one from a follower identified as Dmguez Lary: "Our day is coming. Cuba will be free because Trump will say so."
When a user named Yoandro Abalo questioned him about doing it "from afar," Torres replied straightforwardly: "Clearly in sight here," reaffirming his stance unambiguously.
Other supporters joined in with phrases like "Homeland and Life," "down with the dictatorship," and words of appreciation for the singer.
Zenia Hernández wrote: "Thank you for always raising your voice for your people. We admire you for your talent and patriotism."
This publication is part of a consistent pattern of political statements from the singer from Camagüey.
Torres publicly supported the protests of July 11, 2021 from Havana, where he broadcast live demanding that the government listen to the people.
That gesture cost him reprisals from the regime: his son was assaulted and the family was subjected to constant police surveillance, which forced him to leave Cuba and settle in Miami.
In the podcast "Sin Rodeo" by Jomari Goyso, Torres confessed in June 2025: "I never wanted to leave my country, but I had to."
In the months leading up to this publication, Torres had intensified his artistic-political activism. On April 5, he released the music video for the remix of "Cubano" in collaboration with rapper El B, a song that concludes with the chorus "Viva Cuba Libre," which Torres described as "a gift for all Cubans, Latinos, and everyone around the world who feels the need and the strength for Cuba to be free."
On April 11, he also announced a collaboration with producer Emilio Estefan Jr., consolidating an artistic agenda that combines musical projection with a political message.
In March, public support was expressed for Cuban activist Anna Bensi, joining other voices from the diaspora that support those confronting the repression of the regime from within the island.
The journey of Torres as one of the most active voices of the Cuban diaspora advocating for the island's freedom formally began with his live broadcast during the 11J, when he declared: "We want a free Cuba. Free from injustices for all Cubans. We are in Havana, and we have suffered greatly from all that we are going through. We want to choose our president."
