A video posted this Thursday on TikTok shows the condition of a Cuban couple's home in the Supermanzana 23 of Cancún, Quintana Roo, after the disturbances sparked by a complaint from a Mexican citizen who claimed to have been attacked by the alleged owner of an unleashed dog.

The clip visually documents the damage inflicted on the property: broken windows, damaged doors, and the destroyed entrance gate, resulting from the actions of several individuals who gathered in front of the property to protest against the Cuban identified as Rigoberto «N».

The trigger was the public denunciation by the affected Mexican, who shared a video on social media showing his injuries after claiming that he was bitten by the animal and then physically assaulted by its alleged Cuban owner.

The content went viral quickly, and hours later, users called for a protest in front of the residence with messages that mockingly invited people to "visit the Cuban piñata."

The crowd threw rocks and bottles at the facade, which prompted a strong security operation involving the Municipal Police, State Police, National Guard, Navy, and riot control teams to disperse the crowd.

The Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Traffic of Benito Juárez confirmed the operation through an official statement, indicating that it was activated "due to a report related to a disturbance of public order in the area" and that during the response to the events "damage to a property was recorded."

Rigoberto "N" was rescued by municipal police with the support of federal forces and presented before a civic judge.

Subsequently, the Cuban couple was placed under immigration protection at the disposal of the National Institute of Migration (INM), which has up to 15 business days to resolve their situation, with the possibility of being accommodated in an immigration station for up to 60 days according to the Migration Law of Mexico.

During the operation, paramedics from the Rescue and Emergency Medical Squad (ERUM) provided pre-hospital care to Yudelmis «N», the Cuban's partner, who was in a state of pregnancy.

The episode takes place amid growing social tension in Supermanzana 23, an area where a significant portion of the Cuban migrant community in Cancun has concentrated.

In the previous weeks, the area witnessed several serious incidents: four Cubans were arrested on May 21 for shooting a Cuban singer with at least nine bullets; on May 5, a Cuban woman was stabbed by her ex-partner in a case being investigated as femicide; and on May 26, a Cuban was arrested for alleged robbery at a notary's office.

On April 16, residents of Supermanzana 23 had already protested in front of the Benito Juárez city hall, reporting at least 10 incidents per month of assaults and thefts in the area.

This social climate is framed within an unprecedented migration flow: according to a report from Human Rights Watch published on May 27, 4,353 Cubans were deported from the United States to Mexico between January 2025 and March 2026, making them the most numerous group among nationals of other countries expelled to Mexican territory, many of whom settle in Cancun under precarious economic conditions.

As of the time of the reports, neither the Attorney General's Office of Quintana Roo nor the municipal authorities had announced the formal opening of investigations related to the disturbances or the initial report of aggression.
