Jennifer Lopez bids farewell to summer —and to a chapter— with a carousel of photos on Instagram that has already amassed over 142,000 likes: a road trip through Italy with her twin children Max and Oskar, aged 18, before they both head off to college in the fall.
The singer captured the spirit of the trip in one sentence: "Road tripping with my coconuts before they head off to college." The crying emoji says it all.
The nickname "coconuts" —cocos— has its own endearing story: when the twins were babies and hardly had any hair, JLo said their little heads reminded her of coconuts. The nickname stuck forever.
The carousel images capture various moments from the trip. A selfie at a restaurant. A group photo in front of the monumental Pigna di bronzo in the Cortile della Pigna at the Vatican Museums in Rome. A shot from inside the vehicle during the road trip, with mother and son smiling. And two portraits of the twins on staircases and historical stone facades that could easily be the cover of any Italian travel guide.
The family was seen in Rome in recent days, with stops at the Colosseum, Via Condotti, and, of course, at a few gelato shops. Priorities.
The trip is filled with excitement because both twins graduated from high school in June. JLo burst into tears during Max's graduation ceremony, and Oskar's was no less emotional. In the podcast SmartLess, the artist revealed that both were accepted into every university they applied to and that they both received scholarships.
Oskar, who was introduced with that name at his graduation from Windward School in Los Angeles, plans to study theater and visual arts at Sarah Lawrence College starting this fall.
Note: Marc Anthony, father of the twins, was absent from the graduations in June, though that's another matter entirely.
With this trip, JLo is preparing for the empty nest. For now, at least, the nest still smells like Roman ice cream.
