Marco Antonio Muñiz, the full name of Marc Anthony, is a singer, actor, music producer, and television producer of Puerto Rican descent, born in New York on September 16, 1968.
He began his career in 1991 as a hip hop singer with the duo Little Louie & Marc Anthony. Soon after, he signed with the record label RMM Records, where in 1993 he released his debut studio album, Otra Nota. This album, which was also his first salsa record, reached second place on the Billboard Tropical Albums chart and secured the 30th spot on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart. The album produced three singles: "Hasta que te conocí," "Palabras del alma," and "Si tú no te fueras," all of which made it onto the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart.
Since then, the singer has built a prolific career spanning over 35 years, which continues to yield success and has led him to record and share stages with prominent Latino musicians. He remains dedicated to salsa, a genre in which he feels most at home and for which he is celebrated worldwide. He has recorded more than 20 albums, and many of his singles have consistently topped charts around the globe. He has won several Lo Nuestro Awards and was recognized in 2014 with the Excellence Award for his outstanding career as one of the most successful artists in Latin music.
In 2006, he made his film debut in "El cantante," based on the life of the controversial Puerto Rican singer Héctor Lavoe, a role he played.
In 2013, he covered the song "Flor pálida" by the Cuban artist Polo Montañés in his album "3.0". Polo had originally composed it for his second and final studio album "Guitarra mía" (2002).
Marc Anthony's version was arranged and produced by the American musician Sergio George. Héctor Avilés from Latino Music Cafe described Anthony's rendition as "a great tribute to Polo's original version with his performance."
In 2015, he launched Magnus Media, an entertainment company based in Miami, alongside Michel Vega. The company encompasses a record label, management, publishing, marketing, and distribution divisions, as well as a talent agency. The Cuban group Gente de Zona had been working with this record label since 2016 and renewed their contract for an additional four years in September 2021, a fact announced by Marc himself on his social media. In 2016, Gente de Zona revealed that it was Marc Anthony who suggested they collaborate on "La Macarena" with the original authors, leading them to record the version with Los del Río.
Not only does the duo Gente de Zona, who recorded successful songs like "La Gozadera" in 2015 and "Traidora" in 2016, maintain a professional relationship with the singer, but Leoni Torres, the author of "Traidora," also signed with Magnus in 2016. In 2019, the popular Cuban singer Erik Alejandro Iglesias, known as Cimafunk, and the controversial reggaeton artist Chocolate MC, who claimed to have signed with this company for a CD of 10 songs produced by Motiff and Magnus, joined the roster.
On its part, the first signing of Magnus Sport was Cuban baseball player Aroldis Chapman, and the roster also includes brothers Lourdes Jr. and Yulieski Gurriel, as well as Víctor Jr. and Víctor Víctor Mesa. Recently, Cuban prospects Dyan Yamel Jorge and Yoelkis Céspedes have also joined this list.
In September 2020, Anthony confirmed through his social media that he was working on new music.
