Jennifer Lynn Lopez Rodríguez, (Jennifer Lopez, JLo) is an American actress, singer, dancer, songwriter, record producer, fashion designer, businesswoman, television producer, choreographer, and perfumer of Puerto Rican descent, born in New York on July 24, 1969.
Known worldwide for her major musical hits like "If You Had My Love," "No Me Ames," "Waiting for Tonight," "El Anillo Pa Cuando," "On the Floor," and "Dance Again," Jennifer Lopez has sold over 80 million records and became the first Latina actress to earn a million dollars for her role in the film Selena, which launched her to fame in 1997 after working in shows and films that received mixed reviews. However, in 1995, she received the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as María, a young Mexican immigrant in the film My Family. Following her success with Selena, she starred in other titles such as Anaconda, U Turn, directed by Oliver Stone, and Out of Sight, a film by Steven Soderbergh.
By 1999, Jennifer López was already establishing herself as an actress in Hollywood when she released, in partnership with Sony Music, the record label of Tommy Mottola, her first album, titled On the 6, which was a resounding success. Subsequently, the single for the Latin market, "No me ames," a duet with Marc Anthony, reached number one on the Billboard Latin Tracks for ten consecutive weeks.
In the following years, Jlo would continue to achieve great success as an actress and singer, simultaneously becoming a symbol of female empowerment through her sophisticated and sensual image.
On February 22, 1997, Jennifer Lopez married the Cuban Ojani Noa, from whom she divorced a year later. A video from that time circulates on the internet, showing JLo walking through the streets of the Havana neighborhood of Jaimanitas when she was still not famous, which is believed to have been her only visit to Cuba. The disputes between López and Noa have persisted for more than 20 years due to the derogatory way and discrediting remarks made by the Cuban about the Diva, who published a book in 2006, alleging that Noa had assaulted her. The following year, they went to trial and Lopez was awarded $545,000.
In 2011, he collaborated with the Cuban-American singer Pitbull on the track "On The Floor," and in 2014 they teamed up again to perform the anthem for the World Cup, later both supporting Back It Up by Prince Royce.
In the video for the song "I'm Into You," López was accompanied by Cuban actor William Levy, which sparked media speculation about a possible relationship between the two actors.
At the 2013 American Music Awards, she performed three songs by Celia Cruz ("Kímbara," "La vida es un carnaval," and "Bemba Colorá") in a tribute gala to La Guarachera de Cuba, for whom she has always held great admiration.
In July 2017, the single "Ni tú ni yo" was released from the album Por primera vez, featuring the successful Cuban duo Gente de Zona, which has over 117 million views on YouTube. That same album includes the song Amnesia written by Yotuel Romero from Orishas.
In 2020, she was nominated for a Golden Globe for her leading role as Ramona in the film Hustlers and delivered a memorable performance alongside the Colombian Shakira at the Super Bowl.
