Jennifer Lynn Lopez Rodríguez, (Jennifer Lopez, JLo) is an actress, singer, dancer, songwriter, record producer, fashion designer, entrepreneur, television producer, choreographer, and perfumer from the United States of Puerto Rican descent, born in New York on July 24, 1969.
Known worldwide for major musical hits such as “If You Had My Love,” “No Me Ames,” “Waiting for Tonight,” “El Anillo Pa Cuando,” “On the Floor,” and “Dance Again,” Jennifer Lopez has sold over 80 million records and became the first Latina actress to earn a million dollars for her role in the film Selena, which launched her to fame in 1997 after working in series and movies that did not receive very good reviews. However, in 1995, while portraying María, a young Mexican immigrant in the film My Family, she received the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actress. Following her success with Selena, she took on other titles such as Anaconda, U Turn, directed by Oliver Stone, and Out of Sight, a film by Steven Soderbergh.
By 1999, Jennifer López was already establishing herself as an actress in Hollywood when she launched her debut album, On the 6, in collaboration with Sony Music, the record label of Tommy Mottola, achieving tremendous success. Subsequently, the single for the Latin market titled "No me ames," a duet with Marc Anthony, reached number one on the Billboard Latin Tracks for ten consecutive weeks.
In the following years, Jlo would continue to achieve great success as an actress and singer, simultaneously becoming a symbol of female empowerment through her sophisticated and sensual image.
On February 22, 1997, Jennifer Lopez married Cuban Ojani Noa, from whom she divorced a year later. During that time, a video circulated on the internet showing JLo walking through the streets of the Havana neighborhood of Jaimanitas when she was not yet famous, which is believed to have been her only visit to Cuba. The confrontations between Lopez and Noa have lasted over 20 years due to the derogatory comments and discrediting remarks the Cuban continues to make about the Diva, who in 2006 published a book claiming that Noa had abused her. The following year, they went to trial, and Lopez was awarded $545,000.
In 2011, she collaborated with Cuban-American singer Pitbull on the song "On The Floor," and in 2014, they teamed up again to sing the anthem for the World Cup, later both supported Back It Up by Prince Royce.
In the video for the song "I'm Into You," López was joined by Cuban actor William Levy, which sparked media speculation about a possible relationship between the two actors.
At the 2013 American Music Awards, she performed three songs by Celia Cruz ("Kímbara," "La vida es un carnaval," and "Bemba Colorá") in a tribute gala to La Guarachera de Cuba, whom she has always admired deeply.
In July 2017, the single "Ni tú ni yo" was released from the album Por primera vez, collaborating with the successful Cuban duo Gente de Zona, which has over 117 million views on YouTube. The same album features the song Amnesia written by Yotuel Romero of Orishas.
In 2020, she was nominated for a Golden Globe for her leading role as Ramona in the film Hustlers and left us all with a memorable performance alongside Colombian Shakira at the Super Bowl.
