The theft of the motorcycle belonging to the renowned Cuban actor Néstor Jiménez has sparked a wave of solidarity among colleagues and fans, who are now organizing a public fundraiser to help him replace his vehicle.
The call was led by cultural promoter and baritone Ulises Aquino Guerra, founder of the El Cabildo Cultural Center in Miramar, who posted on Facebook an invitation directed to friends and admirers of the actor. "Néstor Jiménez has had his means of transportation stolen. In fact, I would say they stole what allowed him to make a living and continue acting," he wrote.
The robbery took place hours after the national premiere of Neurótica anónima, the new film by Jorge Perugorría, in which Jiménez is part of the cast, held on Friday at the Yara cinema in Havana. The casting director Libia Batista Mora was the first to make the news public.
Aquino Guerra emphasized the seriousness of the blow: "It is very difficult for an actor who lives off their work at their age to gather the money to acquire another."
Those interested in contributing can visit the Cabildo, located on 4th Street between 7th and 9th in Miramar, and submit their donation to the bartender known as "Guarasi," who will keep a record of the donors without disclosing the amounts contributed, so that the actor knows who participated in the initiative.
The call was amplified on social media. Activist Lara Crofs made her own solidarity appeal, recalling the day she met Jiménez at one of the Sunday gatherings of the Cabildo, where they discussed various topics: "I was left with a magnificent impression of this man, and today it saddens me greatly to know that his motorcycle has been stolen. Please, anyone who can contribute, I would be very grateful," she said on Facebook.
At the moment, the exact circumstances of the theft and the location where the motorcycle disappeared are unknown. It has also not been revealed whether the actor filed a report with the police.
Last week, the actor and theater director Alejandro Palomino reported an attempted robbery at his home in the early morning, while his entire family was asleep. The troubadour Ray Fernández, known as «Ray Tun Tun», reported being assaulted in El Vedado, suffering loss of teeth and fractures in his face and skull.
In July, actor Luis Alberto García Novoa publicly warned about the rise in crime and questioned the Ministry of the Interior for prioritizing political repression over public safety.
The Public Insecurity Report from Cuban Observatory of Citizen Audit (OCAC), covering the first half of this year, documented 985 crimes between January and June, compared to the 1,319 recorded during the same period in 2025. The OCAC indicated that this decrease of 25.3% is unreliable due to the extreme limitations for reporting from Cuba.
“Their statistics represent an underreporting based solely on facts that manage to become public, and during 2026, the prolonged blackouts, connection difficulties, and the deterioration of the information ecosystem have diminished the capacity to document them,” the text specifies.
