Eduardo Antonio, the Cuban artist known as El Divo de Placetas, received the Icon Award 2026 in the category "Favorite and Indomitable," an honor that was presented to him during the ceremony held on Thursday in Miami.
The artist himself confirmed the recognition on his social media with a message of gratitude: "Thank you to everyone who voted for me, to all my sponsors, to my production team."
In the shared images, El Divo appears with his unmistakable style: crystal glasses, silver sequins, and elaborate makeup, holding the turquoise trophy characteristic of these awards.
The most emotional moment came during his speech on stage, when the artist reflected on what it means to be an icon beyond the image: "Being an icon means leaving a mark, being brave, crying many times when people don't understand you, when people mock you, calling you names like 'faggot' and 'clown,' saying you're ridiculous; but I found the courage because my father once told me, 'You are different, and that's it.'"
In the same category, the Cuban creator of humorous content Amed Rodríguez, known as "Abejas Memes", was nominated, making the competition a showdown between two popular figures in the Cuban exile community.
The night also featured a special segment led by El Divo: he publicly congratulated the Cuban reggaeton artist Dany Ome, winner in the Supporting Actor category, and announced his intention to record a song together, possibly as a tribute to Chocolate MC.
The award comes during a period of high visibility for the artist from Placetas, Villa Clara. Days earlier, he had received the recognition of "Special Recognition for Latin Excellence" at the sixth edition of the Hispanic Celebrities Awards, held in Miami.
This recognition is complemented by the title of "LGBTQI+ Icon" that he received in 2025 for his visibility and contribution to that community, a title that marked a milestone in his career.
The artist's next engagement is already on the calendar: a birthday party at the Flamingo Theater Bar in Miami on December 9 that promises to be a grand affair.
