Three people, including a child, who sustained serious injuries in the massive accident that occurred on Sunday in the municipality of Majagua, in Ciego de Ávila, remain in critical condition and fighting for their lives two days after the incident.

Dr. Julio Díaz Agramonte, neurosurgeon and director of the Roberto Rodríguez General Teaching Hospital in Morón, reported this Tuesday that seven patients remain hospitalized in the center, three of them in critical condition, two serious, and two reported as stable.

In the medical report at 10 a.m., Díaz emphasized that there are two patients in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit: one who remains in critical condition and the other in serious condition.

About the first one, a 14-year-old boy, it was noted that, despite his serious condition, “he is feeling a little better today, with more stability.” The doctor detailed that with the treatment applied to the minor, blood pressure and heart rate have been stabilizing, “the internal environment (is) more stable, with no new bleeding.”

It's critical, but within the critical condition, there is a slight improvement, he stated. The doctor did not provide the patient's name, but from information that has emerged in the last few hours, it is known that it is the child Rafael Osvaldo Martínez Ramos, for whom urgent blood donations have been requested.

Regarding the pediatric patient reported as critical, the director of the Morón General Hospital stated that “he is better, now breathing spontaneously, conscious and oriented,” although he still experiences “pain, especially in the limbs,” and has a fracture in his right forearm. His progress is favorable, he affirmed.

Meanwhile, two people remain hospitalized in the Neurosurgery ward, one in serious condition and the other under careful observation.

"He has a severe condition, with brain contusions and traumatic hemorrhage, experiencing drowsiness and periods of psychomotor agitation, although he responds coherently upon waking," he explained.

The other patient is “conscious and oriented, in good general condition, with a cervical sprain and post-concussion syndrome that is evolving positively,” Díaz specified, adding that she is likely to be discharged from the hospital this Wednesday.

He also mentioned a case in the Miscellaneous A room, which "is still reported as critical, is fully conscious, oriented, and walking," with the cervical spine immobilized by a collar.

In his report, the doctor did not provide details about the condition of the other two critical patients. According to information published on the website of the Ciego de Ávila telecenter, these are the two individuals being treated in the Adult Intensive Care Unit, but the note did not disclose details about their condition either.

Díaz assured that the healthcare center has the necessary medications, medical supplies, and disposable materials. “At this moment, the hospital has all the resources to continue this treatment,” and “we also have a reserve of blood available if needed for these patients,” he affirmed.

The tragic accident, which claimed the lives of four people and left 33 injured, occurred on the morning of last Sunday, when a truck from the Hydraulic Resources Company overturned on the section of Río Grande, between Marroquí and Majagua.

The vehicle was transporting dozens of people and the driver lost control, causing the tragedy.

In the accident, Maikol Dayán Torres González, 13 years old; Lian Pozo Duanes, 14; and Dairon Sarmiento Domínguez, 16, lost their lives. Hours later, Yordanis Fernández Garrido, 23, passed away in the Morón hospital.

The experts investigating the traffic accident confirmed this Monday that the main cause was speeding.
